REMARKS

AM

About 8 the firing on both sides had nearly ceased, and few shots were exchanged during this day. [Gambier så igen Cathcart] and learned that near 2000 shells were last night thrown into the town.

At 8 P.M. the bombardment of the town opened again and continued from our batteries during the night. The town was again set on fire in several places and burnt with great violence. The Danes continue to fire from some of their batteries with great determination.

Friday 4.

[Mere om Norge]

[Cathcart ønsker hjælp. Gambier sender 671 officerer og mænd i land. Tømrere med værktøj assisterer i opførelse af “Platform for the Batteries”].

REMARKS

AM

At 4 the bombs were placed in their several positions and began to fire on the town and Crown batteries, which they continued for several hours. The town, during the preceding night, has been on fire in several places, and continues to burn. The fire from our batteries declined about 8. At 8 PM they opened again, with great rapidity and effect. The town was soon set on fire again in many parts, and the conflagration appeared to be very extensive during the night.

Saturday 5.

[Keats mangler proviant].

REMARKS

AM

The conflagration raging to a great extent in Copenhagen about 4 the spire of the longest Church took fire and fell. The batteries continue their fire. The Danes return few shells. The firing on both sides ceased during the greater part of the day, but the City continues on fire in several places. About 8 PM the flames took a wider range. Some accounts from the army inform me that last night a strong battery on the right was destroyed. Several explosions were observed in the town during the night. At 11 I received information from Lord Cathcart that the Governor had sent out to propose an armistice for setting terms of Capitulation.
